FT 540 Lecture: Tuesday, June 17

Love stories
Be aware of different aspects of love. Groin (desire) -> heart -> will -> spirit. Most love stories end with heart -- love seen as need (as opposed to desire). Love act of will.

Love as spirit -- Joan of Arc, Wings of Desire. Evanescent (pornography dense). Instinct -> spirit huge movement, rich in dramatic potential.

Four general endings -- happy, nasty, open-ended (mature), conciliation (happy but also mature, accept full individuality of other). Disturbed films generally patriarchal.

Films covered in lecture
Sid and Nancy
The Boys in the Band
